DRCSC Ties San Diego Flash 2-2

By June 10, 2014 No Comments

Over the past couple of weeks DRCSC owners Jorge Rodriguez and Brian Perez have reorganized the team’s training, strategy, and tactics in search of a result. Surprise! The changes paid off immediately.

Just 4 minutes into the game Del Rey City keeper, Jonathan Nydell, held the ball at his feet inside the 18 yard box and sent it sailing well into the opponents half. Headed by a defending opponent and deflecting off of a CITY attacker, the ball ended up at the feet of CITY midfielder, Gabe Mauries. Passing the ball square to his left another CITY midfielder, Jose Villa, curved a first-touch shot from the top of the 18 to the far post and into the net for a quick 1-0 lead. The goal was Villa’s first in the NPSL. Gabe Mauries was credited with an assist.(watch: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v4OwR8CnQcs)

DRCSC took a 2-0 lead in the 64th minute when coach/owner/player Jorge Rodriguez shot and scored near the top of the 18 yard box. The keeper was able to get a hand to the ball but was unable to prevent it from crossing over the goal line.

Brandon Zuniga scored the first Flash goal in the 69th minute as well as the equalizer in the 84th. Both goals were from skilled headers and the second one was beauty.

Without question it was a physical, hard played, and highly entertaining match from start to finish. The match was the third and final one of the season between the two clubs with the Flash winning two of three by scores of 3:2 and 7:0.

DRCSC will play Temecula on the road next Saturday at 7:00 PM.
